Why does this site exist
This site exists because Indian medicos, even though they earn decently, work hard, but are still often confused financially. This is less connected to their intelligence and more a result of systemic negligence in understanding the finance and economics of medical life. There’s a sharp contrast between how medicine and economics work, and that’s exactly where my area of interest lies. I believe the financial and economic side of medicine needs attention in today’s world of AI and innovative healthcare models. FORAMEN OF FINANCE is a humble attempt from my side to create a quiet space on the internet equipped with the information which I gathered over months, that is accessible, easy to understand, with a sole purpose of decentralising the concepts and diluting the complexity around economics and finance for every Indian medico in a way which probably hasn’t been attempted before. This is a long way, and I feel that collaborations with fellow medicos would help make this mission even better.
The problem this site tries to address
In a single sentence, “dealing with uncertainties by understanding the mechanics below “. Oh, wait, isn’t it the basis of medicine too ?. Every medical decision we make involves reward and risk, and that’s a game we play daily to secure the best possible health outcome for our patients. I have tried to apply the same logic to economics in relation to medicine, and the outcomes are surprisingly easy to understand. The site addresses the gap between your understanding of the mechanics and your current state and empowers your decision-making. The site’s content aims to help you slow down, reflect on your financial outlook, and take actionable steps we often procrastinate on. The site does not position itself as the last word and focuses solely on “what this is and how this matters”.
What this site is
This site aims to be a collection of content centred on the economic angle of medical life. Firstly, it will have blogs exploring interesting and relevant concepts around money, investing, taxation, banking, insurance, healthcare, and their business economics. Later, it also aims to provide a brief analysis and discussion of developments in the healthcare sector and their possible impacts, mainly from an economic perspective. There will also be a special focus on topics such as financial scams, healthcare bills in parliament, and important correlations from history. The content is aimed at helping medics connect the dots in a broader context and see them more clearly.
What this site is not
This site is not for stock or sector tips, nor for the recommendation of mutual funds or any investment product. I am not an RIA or an MF distributor, and I do not intend to become one, so this is not an advisory service either. You shall find no shortcuts in the content of this site, no links to any masterclass that claims to make you a money-minting machine right away. There is no pressure to change or demeaning of any investing style as long as you are legally confident about it. The content on this site does not include all the answers and, at times, may contain outdated data that has been updated more quickly and needs revision. Lastly, this site is not where your genuine questions will be ridiculed.
How to read what is here
This site is a coffee that you should sip slowly at your own pace. This is not a syllabus, so there isn’t any deadline. None of us is at the same stage, and that’s been a central idea while creating this website. You decide what makes you curious to read and what to skip. Although to have some structure, the writings have been rooted in 3 different domains. 1) basics, orientations and perspectives. 2) essays and briefs, 3) analysis, systems and context.
